Application Fees and Registration charges Waives for Rooftop Solar Systems up to 10 kW Under PM Surya Ghar in Delhi

May 07, 2025

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has waived application fees and registration charges for rooftop solar systems up to 10 kW for residential consumers under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, joining a growing list of states offering similar incentives to promote solar adoption.

As of April, 2025, around 1800 households in Delhi had installed rooftop solar systems totaling 9.8 MW under PM Surya Ghar, reflecting the need for stronger policy support.

Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan have also eliminated various rooftop solar-related charges to encourage uptake. Andhra waived net metering and application fees, while Rajasthan scrapped application fees, security deposits, and meter testing charges until it meets its 500,000-rooftop target.

Despite these efforts, a recent Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy report flagged slow national progress, with only 905,000 households benefitting and 600,000 receiving subsidies—well below the 35 lakh systems targeted for FY26.

The initiative is implemented via the National Portal, which streamlines registrations, vendor selection, subsidy disbursals, and utility inspections for residential consumers.
