China’s Largest Dual-Fuel Car Carrier Yuanhai Kou Sets Sail with Solar + LNG Power
May 22, 2025
The Yuanhai Kou, China's largest ocean-going dual-fuel car carrier powered by photovoltaic (PV) and LNG technologies, has embarked on its maiden voyage from Nansha Port, carrying thousands of vehicles—over 90% of them new energy vehicles (NEVs)—to Greece, Turkey, Italy, and Tunisia. At 199.9 meters long and capable of transporting up to 7,000 vehicles, the vessel represents a breakthrough in green maritime logistics.
The ship features a 302.8 kW distributed PV system using over 500 LONGi Sea-Shield modules, engineered specifically for harsh marine conditions. This system is expected to generate 410,000 kWh annually, cutting fuel use by 111 tons and reducing CO2 emissions by 346 tons, equivalent to planting 38,000 trees.
Yuanhai Kou also utilizes LNG dual-fuel engines, reducing sulfur oxide emissions by 90%, nitrogen oxides by 85%, and carbon emissions by 25% compared to conventional marine fuel. LONGi's modules, designed for maximum durability with anti-corrosion frames and reinforced sealing, ensure continuous green power generation at sea.
Described as a "carrier of China's clean energy vision," the Yuanhai Kou signals China's ambition to lead in decarbonized global shipping. LONGi emphasized its commitment to sustainable innovation in logistics, positioning this ship as a powerful example of integrating advanced solar tech with clean marine design to drive low-carbon transformation in heavy transport.
