DGT & Shell India Launch Green Skills and EV Training Program to Empower Youth for Net-Zero Future

The Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), in collaboration with Shell India, has launched a comprehensive Green Skills and Electric Vehicle (EV) training program. This initiative, executed by Edunet Foundation, aims to equip students and faculty across selected Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka with practical, industry-aligned green energy and e-mobility capabilities.
The program introduces a multi-tier curriculum: a 240-hour advanced EV Technician course at four NSTIs, a 90-hour EV skills course at 12 ITIs with Shell-supported labs, and a 50-hour foundational green skills module at additional ITIs. Developed collaboratively by Shell, Edunet Foundation, and DGT, the curriculum focuses on EV systems, diagnostics, safety, and battery technology, and includes a Training of Trainers (ToT) module for over 250 instructors. Joint certification and structured placement support are embedded into the initiative to boost employability.
Specialised EV skill labs will be established within select ITIs and NSTIs, offering hands-on training to align with industry standards. The initiative complements national EV adoption programs like the FAME scheme and state-level EV policies, contributing to India's climate goals and green job creation.
MSDE Minister Jayant Chaudhary emphasized the government's commitment to linking skill development with sustainability, describing the program as a “generational opportunity” for India. DGT Director General Trishaljit Sethi highlighted the program's role in real-world skill-building. Shell India Chairperson Mansi Madan Tripathy reiterated the company's commitment to supporting local communities and youth employment in a lower-carbon economy.
