Green Energy Corridor Phase-I Nears Completion; Phase-II Set for 2027
Jul 04, 2025
India’s ambitious Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-I, designed to enable the evacuation of 24 GW of renewable power across eight states, has nearly achieved completion. As of January 31, 2025, 20 GW of capacity has been commissioned, with transmission lines and substations approaching their respective targets of 9,767 circuit kilometres and 22,689 MVA transformation capacity. Four states have completed 100% of the work, while the remaining four are nearing 90–94% completion. Phase-I, launched in 2015, covers states like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and others, with support from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Central Financial Assistance.
Phase-II is also advancing steadily. This phase aims to evacuate an additional 20 GW of green power through 7,919 ckm of intra-state lines and 24,488 MVA capacity in seven states including Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka. Over half of the packages have already been awarded, and most projects are underway. Completion is targeted within two years.
The GEC-II interstate component includes 713 km of transmission lines and 5 GW HVDC terminals at Pang (Ladakh) and Kaithal (Haryana) for evacuating 13 GW of solar power and integrating 12 GWh of BESS. The Ladakh-Haryana corridor design is in progress with anticipated completion by FY2030.
