India Adds 23 GW of Solar in 2024: JMK Research’s Annual Solar Report Card Highlights State-wise and Sectoral Growth

JMK Research & Analytics has released the India Solar Report Card for 2024 (Jan–Dec), capturing significant progress in both utility-scale and rooftop solar segments. As of December 31, 2024, India had commissioned 79.2 GW of utility-scale solar, with 71.8 GW more in the pipeline where auctions have been completed.
Rajasthan continues to dominate with ~25 GW installed, followed by Gujarat (11.9 GW) and Karnataka (9.8 GW). In 2024, India added a total of 18.5 GW in utility-scale and 4.59 GW in rooftop/onsite solar capacity. The leading states for 2024 additions were Rajasthan (7.5 GW), Gujarat (5.1 GW), and Tamil Nadu (1.4 GW).
Looking ahead, 2025 is projected to see 22.8 GW of utility-scale and 5.8 GW of rooftop solar installations.
Module suppliers were led by Waaree, Jinko, and Longi, with Chinese shipments affected due to the ALMM order effective from April 1, 2024. Top inverter suppliers included Sungrow, Sineng, TBEA, and FIMER.
Adani, ReNew, and O2 Power topped the utility-scale developer list, while Amplus, Brookfield, and Tata Power led in open access projects. In the rooftop sector, Tata Power Solar, Mahindra Solarize, and Amplus emerged as leaders.
