India’s EV Sales Grow 3% YoY in Q1 2025, Led by Two-Wheelers

India’s electric vehicle (EV) sales grew 3% year-over-year (YoY) in Q1 2025, reaching 514,198 units, compared to 499,930 units in Q1 2024. EVs now represent 8% of total automobile sales, which stood at 0.637 crore units in Q1 2025.
Segment-Wise Breakdown:
- Electric Two-Wheelers (59% of total EV sales)
- Top Seller: Bajaj Auto (77,860 units)
- Followed by TVS (73,384), Ola (56,465), Ather (40,476), and Hero Motocorp (14,132).
- Electric Four-Wheelers (6% of total EV sales)
- Top Seller: Tata Motors (12,582 units)
- Followed by MG Motor (11,499), Mahindra & Mahindra (2,834), Hyundai (1,935), and BYD India (924).
- Electric Three-Wheelers (34% of total EV sales)
- Top Seller: Mahindra Last Mile Mobility (18,638 units)
- Followed by Bajaj Auto (15,236), YC Electric (10,705), Saera Electric Auto (6,577), and Dilli Electric Auto (5,367).
Government Push for EV Adoption
- Total EVs in India: 0.591 crore registered units
- PM E-Drive Program: Rs10,900 crore allocated for EV subsidies and charging infrastructure.
- Localization Mandate: The Ministry of Heavy Industries requires 100% domestic content for 18 EV components under two-wheeler, three-wheeler, and e-bus segments to qualify for subsidies.

- 0.2479 crore electric two-wheelers
- 316,000 three-wheelers
- 14,028 e-buses
India’s EV market continues to grow, albeit at a slower pace than previous years, but government policies and incentives are expected to drive future expansion.
