India’s First Vertical Bifacial Solar Plant of DMRC Inaugurated by Union Power Minister

Feb 20, 2025

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched India’s first Rail Integrated Vertical Bifacial Solar PV project, a 100 kWp installation spanning 150 meters along the metro viaduct between Okhla and Jasola Apollo metro stations. Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal inaugurated the project at Okhla Vihar Metro Station, along with a 1 MW rooftop solar plant at Khyber Pass Depot.

Key Highlights
  • Bifacial solar panels capture sunlight from both sides, maximizing energy output.
  • Installed on metro viaducts, utilizing existing infrastructure without occupying additional land.
  • Aims to make metro rail operations more sustainable while supporting India's renewable energy goals.
  • Developed with support from German Development Cooperation, MNRE, and GIZ India.

This initiative sets a new benchmark for integrating solar power into urban transport infrastructure.
