Lyten Acquires Northvolt’s BESS Facility in Europe to Expand Lithium-Sulfur Battery Production

Jul 03, 2025

Lyten, a global leader in lithium-sulfur battery technology and advanced material applications, has acquired Northvolt’s Dwa ESS battery manufacturing and R&D facility in Gda?sk, Poland. This 25,000 sq. meter facility—Europe’s largest for battery energy storage systems (BESS)—was formerly operated by Northvolt Systems. Although the financial details remain undisclosed, the acquisition marks a major milestone in Lyten’s expansion into the European energy storage market.

The Gda?sk facility, operational since 2023, currently has a manufacturing capacity of 6 GWh, with infrastructure ready for expansion beyond 10 GWh. It is powered by renewable energy and already holds contracted orders extending into 2026, signaling strong market confidence. This acquisition provides Lyten with the critical scale to meet increasing demand for energy storage, especially in the utility and commercial sectors.

Lyten’s lithium-sulfur batteries are already being used in drones, have been deployed on the International Space Station, and were selected for Chrysler’s Halcyon Concept EV under Stellantis. The acquisition of Northvolt Dwa ESS significantly enhances Lyten’s production capacity and accelerates its commercialization efforts for next-generation, sustainable energy storage technologies across Europe.
