Octopus Energy Acquires MN Projects to Accelerate Germany’s Renewable Energy Push
May 12, 2025
Octopus Energy Generation, the renewables investment arm of UK-based Octopus Energy Group, has acquired Hamburg-headquartered MN projects GmbH, a green energy developer with a 2 GW pipeline of solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. This acquisition significantly strengthens Octopus’ footprint in Germany and supports the nation’s ambitious goal of achieving 80% renewable electricity by 2030.
MN projects is currently developing more than 70 renewable energy sites across Germany, with the first projects ready for construction and others following in phases. Once operational, these projects will generate enough clean energy to power 500,000 homes—equivalent to all households in Frankfurt—and provide battery storage for an additional 150,000 households. Notably, the portfolio focuses on coal-dependent regions such as Saxony and Lower Saxony, directly contributing to Germany’s energy transition (Energiewende).
This acquisition was made through the Octopus Energy Development Partnership (OEDP), a fund focused on clean energy investments across Europe. It is Octopus’ ninth investment in Germany in under three years, aligning with its broader strategy to invest EUR 1 billion in the country by 2027. It follows the company's previous investment in Lintas Green Energy, which is developing 1 GW of solar and wind projects by 2030.
In addition to boosting its renewable energy development, Octopus is rapidly growing its energy supply business in Germany, now serving over 800,000 customers—double its customer base from a year ago. The company is also expanding its unique ‘Fan Club’ model, which offers lower energy bills to residents near wind farms.
Executives from both companies emphasized that the partnership will enhance project delivery, grid stability, and the decarbonization of Germany’s power sector while reinforcing energy security.
