Patel Infrastructure and ACME Solar Win NHPC BESS Auction in Andhra Pradesh

Jun 27, 2025

NHPC’s auction for developing 500 MW/1,000 MWh of standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Andhra Pradesh has concluded with Patel Infrastructure and ACME Solar emerging as successful bidders. Patel Infrastructure secured 225 MW/450 MWh capacity at the Jammalamadugu substation with the lowest bid (L1) tariff of Rs2.08 lakh/MW/month.

ACME Solar won the remaining 275 MW/550 MWh capacity across two substations—225 MW/450 MWh at Ghani at Rs2.22 lakh/MW/month and 50 MW/100 MWh at Kuppam at Rs2.10 lakh/MW/month. The tender, floated in February 2025, aims to bolster intra-state transmission system (InSTS) connected storage infrastructure.

The winning projects are eligible for viability gap funding (VGF) of ?27 lakh/MWh or 30% of the capital cost, whichever is lower. Developers must commission projects within 18 months, ensure 95% system availability monthly, operate for two full cycles daily, and maintain an AC-to-AC round-trip efficiency of at least 85%.

ACME Solar’s CCO, Rahula Kashyapa, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing India’s renewable energy goals and grid stability through cutting-edge storage solutions. The project marks a significant step in Andhra Pradesh’s journey toward energy security and sustainability.
