PM Surya Ghar Yojana Powers Rooftop Solar Surge Across Five Leading States
May 07, 2025
India's rooftop solar revolution is gaining powerful momentum under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, with five states emerging as frontrunners in this people-powered transformation. Spearheaded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the initiative is turning homes into energy producers, backed by policy, community participation, and local execution.
Gujarat leads with 12,50,472 kWp, showcasing model synergy between DISCOMs and citizens. Maharashtra, with 7,08,792 kWp, follows through broad outreach across urban and rural areas. Uttar Pradesh ranks third at 4,20,223 kWp, propelled by strong political will and awareness campaigns. Kerala and Rajasthan, with 3,72,777 kWp and 1,80,313 kWp respectively, demonstrate how innovation and local adaptability can drive rooftop success.
This surge in adoption reflects a fundamental shift: solar energy is no longer a luxury—it’s a right. MNRE emphasizes that each installed megawatt is not just a statistic, but a symbol of trust and self-reliance.
As this mission continues, MNRE calls on citizens and states to accelerate the momentum and make India the rooftop solar capital of the world.
