1st National Roundtable Charts Unified Roadmap for Energy Storage in India

The first National Roundtable on Energy Storage and Renewable Energy brought together key government agencies, state representatives, and leading renewable energy companies to align strategies for energy storage deployment in India. Moderated by Subrahmanyam Pulipaka, CEO of NSEFI, the session featured senior officials from CEA, CERC, CTU, Grid India, RLDCs, and state governments from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Rajasthan.
Industry leaders from companies such as ReNew, ACME, Fortum, JSW, BluPine Energy, Azure Power, and others also joined the discussion. The focus areas included harmonizing storage across CTU/STU frameworks, identifying ISTS integration hotspots, comparing co-located vs. multi-point storage models, and tailoring deployment strategies for both short- and long-duration storage technologies.
The roundtable also addressed challenges such as policy barriers and the need to enforce Energy Storage Obligations (ESOs). The session successfully laid the groundwork for a coordinated national approach, aimed at integrating storage solutions with India’s renewable energy expansion and modernizing the power grid for reliability and flexibility.
