Adani Electricity Floats 500 MW/4,000 MWh Energy Storage Tender with 40-Year Term
May 09, 2025
Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd. (AEML) has issued a tender to procure 500 MW/4,000 MWh of energy storage capacity, with an additional 250 MW/2,000 MWh under a greenshoe option. The energy can be sourced from pumped hydro storage (PSP) or battery energy storage systems (BESS). Bids are due by July 1, 2025, with opening scheduled for July 8. Developers must meet technical and financial eligibility criteria, including a net worth of Rs1.5 crore/MW and an annual turnover of Rs1 crore/MW.
Projects must have a minimum 50 MW capacity and offer eight-hour daily discharge, with five hours of continuous dispatchability. Only commercially proven technologies are allowed, and the project must meet a 90% annual availability and a roundtrip efficiency of at least 75%. The total cycle loss must not exceed 25%.
Projects under construction or with surplus unallocated capacity are eligible. PSP bidders must demonstrate past experience in thermal, hydro, or renewable energy projects or have completed infrastructure EPC contracts of Rs20 crore/MW.
Developers must execute the project on a build-own-operate-maintain basis over 40 years, covering all aspects from financing to O&M. AEML, which topped the FY 2024 discom rankings, had earlier tendered 600 MW of wind power, highlighting its clean energy procurement push.
