Adani Power Secures 25-Year PPA to Supply 1,600 MW to Uttar Pradesh

May 07, 2025

In a major development for India's power sector, Adani Power Limited (APL) has won a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) to supply 1,600 MW of electricity. Approved by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, this agreement was awarded through a competitive bidding process held in October 2024.

The electricity will be supplied from a new thermal power plant that APL will set up within the state. This project marks a significant step in enhancing Uttar Pradesh’s base-load power capacity and is expected to contribute to long-term grid stability and energy availability for the state's growing demand.

The agreement further strengthens Adani Power’s presence in the sector, following a strong performance in FY25 with 102.2 billion units (BU) of power generation—an increase of 19.5% over the 85.5 BU recorded in FY24. This growth underscores the company’s expanding footprint and operational efficiency in meeting India’s energy needs.

Meanwhile, Adani Group’s renewable energy arm, Adani Saur Urja (LA) Limited, also made headlines earlier this year by securing a major energy storage contract, reinforcing the conglomerate’s dual strategy of expanding both thermal and clean energy portfolios.
