Aug 26, 2025
The Government of India has appointed Akash Tripathi, a 1998-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, as the new Managing Director (MD) of Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI). He is currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power and will now take charge of SECI from Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of MNRE, who was handling the role as an additional responsibility after the exit of RP Gupta.
Tripathi brings extensive administrative experience and a strong background in technology-driven initiatives. He has previously served as MD & CEO of Digital India Corporation, CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission, and CEO of MyGov.in. His leadership in these roles has been credited with advancing India’s digital governance, technology innovation, and citizen engagement platforms.
His appointment at SECI comes at a crucial time when the agency is playing a central role in achieving India’s ambitious renewable energy targets, particularly in solar and hybrid energy projects. With his governance expertise and experience in driving large-scale technology missions, Tripathi is expected to strengthen SECI’s leadership and accelerate its contribution to India’s clean energy transition.
