ANDRITZ Wins Order for Adani Green’s 1,800 MW Gandikota Pumped Storage Project
Sept 10, 2025
Austria-based ANDRITZ has secured an order from Adani Green Energy to supply reversible pump turbines, motor-generators, and electromechanical equipment for the 1,800 MW Gandikota pumped storage project (PSP) in Andhra Pradesh’s YSR Kadapa district. The project includes design, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning, leveraging ANDRITZ’s Indian facilities with global support. The order value was not disclosed.
This is ANDRITZ’s third major PSP contract with Adani Green, following the 1,500 MW Tarali project in 2025 and the 500 MW Chitravathi project in 2023. The Gandikota PSP strengthens Adani Green’s pumped hydro expansion, as the company targets over 5 GW PSP capacity by 2030, building on its current 500 MW base.
India is scaling up its PSP infrastructure to provide grid flexibility and renewable integration. Recently, THDC’s 250 MW Tehri PSP Unit-1 and Greenko’s 1,200 MW Pinnapuram HPS became operational, boosting national pumped hydro capacity. To support growth, the Forum of Regulators has recommended exempting electricity duty and cess on pumping input energy, lowering costs and improving project viability.
This project highlights Adani Green’s push into energy storage solutions as part of India’s broader clean energy transition, positioning PSPs as a key enabler of round-the-clock renewable power.
