BPCL and OIL Form Joint Venture to Expand City Gas Distribution in Arunachal Pradesh

Aug 27, 2025

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Oil India Limited (OIL) have signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) to establish a Joint Venture Company (JVC) that will develop a City Gas Distribution (CGD) network in Arunachal Pradesh. The signing took place in the presence of BPCL’s CMD (Additional Charge) Sanjay Khanna and OIL’s CMD Dr. Ranjit Rath.

The JVC will set up Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and provide Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections for domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers. This initiative is expected to enhance clean energy access, improve quality of life, and contribute to the socio-economic development of Arunachal Pradesh, in line with India’s vision of a gas-based economy.

BPCL’s CMD Sanjay Khanna emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding clean energy in the North-East region, highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s untapped potential. He stated that the project will drive sustainable growth by serving households, industries, and transport sectors.

The CGD project was awarded to the BPCL-OIL consortium during the 12th CGD bid round conducted by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).

OIL’s CMD Dr. Ranjit Rath noted that this step builds on the company’s hydrocarbon legacy in Arunachal Pradesh, following the commissioning of the Kumchai-Kusijan gas pipeline last year. He added that OIL remains committed to advancing the government’s hydrocarbon and clean energy vision for the North-East.
