BPCL Commissions 5MW Green Hydrogen Plant at Bina Refinery, Advancing India's Energy Transition

Apr 30, 2025

BPCL has successfully inaugurated its first and one of India's largest Green Hydrogen Plants at the Bina Refinery, marking a major milestone in India's energy transition. The 5MW facility, virtually launched on April 26, 2025, by BPCL's Chairman Shri G. Krishnakumar, aligns with the nation's National Green Hydrogen Mission and the goal to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2070.

This plant boasts a production capacity of over 780 tonnes of green hydrogen per year and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 9,000 tonnes annually. It incorporates advanced electrolysis technology with two 500 Nm³/hr electrolysers, designed for optimal energy efficiency. Remarkably, the project was completed in just 15 months, showcasing both cost-effectiveness and swift execution, setting a new benchmark for public sector oil companies in India.

This achievement is a key component of BPCL's broader environmental strategy, which aims for Net Zero emissions in Scope 1 & 2 by 2040, reinforcing the company's commitment to a sustainable, carbon-neutral energy future for India.
