BPCL Unveils India's First "Net Zero" Retail Outlet with Solar-Wind-Battery Hybrid System

Feb 18, 2025

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has taken an important step toward achieving its Net Zero goals by launching a research pilot integrating Solar, Wind, and Battery Storage to power a retail outlet (RO) with green energy. The breakthrough was showcased at India Energy Week 2025 (IEW 2025), organized by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) and the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI).

Key Highlights of the Project

  • India’s First “Net Zero Retail Outlet” Pilot: Located at BP Asalwas, Haryana, this is the first-ever BPCL retail outlet powered entirely by clean energy, minimizing dependence on diesel generators and grid power.

Innovative Hybrid System:

  • Solar PV Systems: Harness sunlight to generate electricity.
  • Horizontal & Vertical Axis Wind Turbines: Leverage air thrust from vehicular movement on highways for additional power generation.
  • Battery Storage: Ensures reliable energy supply for uninterrupted retail operations.

Strategic Showcase at IEW 2025:

BPCL's "NET ZERO" stall highlighted its innovation journey, with the pilot project model presented to Sh. Pankaj Jain, Secretary, MoPNG, along with senior government officials and international delegates.
