Castillo Engineering Expands Utility-Scale Solar Portfolio in Illinois

Castillo Engineering has been chosen by Recon Corporation to deliver complete engineering services for six utility-scale solar projects across Illinois, including Manteno, Elburn, and Franklin Grove. These projects are spread over agricultural and conservation-sensitive areas, requiring advanced technical planning.

The company is providing a full range of civil and electrical engineering solutions such as power system and ampacity studies, PVsyst modeling, relay settings, structural and CAB calculations, and equipment pad design. Castillo’s expertise comes from prior successful collaborations with Recon, and both companies highlighted the trust and consistency built through their partnership.

Each project presented unique challenges. Some sites had central gas pipelines, limiting electrical routing to just two conduit crossings. Castillo optimized layouts to meet performance and safety standards while staying within these constraints. At Franklin Grove, additional precautions were taken to protect nearby wetlands by adjusting pole placement while maintaining NEC and NESC compliance.

Recon praised Castillo’s ability to manage complex conditions without compromising quality. These Illinois projects strengthen Castillo Engineering’s presence in the MISO utility-scale solar market and reinforce its long-term growth strategy while supporting sustainable energy expansion.
