CCI Approves BII Investment in ReNew Photovoltaics to Boost Solar Manufacturing

Jul 03, 2025

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved British International Investment’s (BII) proposed investment in ReNew Photovoltaics Private Ltd, providing a significant push to India’s solar manufacturing ambitions. BII, a UK government-owned development finance institution, will subscribe to securities in ReNew Photovoltaics, supporting its efforts in solar module and cell production.

ReNew Photovoltaics is currently developing a 4 GW TOPCon solar cell manufacturing facility in Dholera, Gujarat. The investment by BII is expected to accelerate both the construction and operationalization of this advanced manufacturing plant. This marks a strategic milestone in strengthening India's renewable energy supply chain and aligns with the country’s goals to expand domestic solar production capacity.

With the CCI clearance secured, the path is now clear for this international capital infusion into India’s growing clean energy sector. The Commission is expected to release its detailed order soon.
