CEL and ESDS Launch Rs1,000 Cr Green Data Centre in Ghaziabad to Boost Digital Infrastructure
Jun 28, 2025
Central Electronics Ltd. (CEL), a government-owned Mini Ratna enterprise, has partnered with cloud services provider ESDS to set up a Rs1,000 crore green data centre in Ghaziabad. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone during CEL’s golden jubilee celebrations. The facility will have a 30 MW capacity and Tier 3 uptime certification, ensuring 99.982% availability, or just 1.6 hours of downtime per year.
This sustainable data centre—one of the first of its kind in India—will house 200 high-density racks per floor, offer 40 Gbps connectivity, and provide resilient infrastructure tailored to meet India's expanding digital needs. The project is a significant step toward enhancing the country’s digital backbone under the ‘Viksit Bharat’ mission.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh and State IT Minister Sunil Kumar Sharma highlighted CEL’s pioneering work, including India’s first solar cell in 1977, and praised its resurgence from near-disinvestment to national importance. The project also aligns with India’s clean energy and digital ambitions, supported by the IPO-bound ESDS’s expertise in green cloud infrastructure.
The green data centre represents a major milestone for CEL and a model for public-private collaboration in India’s tech-driven growth.
