Coal India Invites Bids for 2 GW Wind Energy Projects

Sept 11, 2025

Coal India Limited (CIL) has issued an expression of interest (EoI) for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of 2,000 MW interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind projects across India. The last date for submission and opening of bids is September 16, 2025.

Developers can bid for projects ranging from 100 MW to 2,000 MW, with sites planned in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The final locations will be selected based on wind yield potential and ISTS grid proximity.

The EPC scope covers design, engineering, micro-siting, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning. Developers must install wind turbine generators (WTGs) listed in the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers (RLMM), with capacities of 1 MW and above. The projects must achieve a minimum capacity utilization factor (CUF) of 35%.

Additional requirements include building internal roads, control buildings, substations, water supply, storage sheds, and approach roads. Electrical works cover HT lines, metering stations, EHV substations, switchgear, and connectivity up to ISTS substations, including bay extensions.

This initiative follows CIL’s recent push into renewables. Earlier, the company invited bids for a 150 MW solar-plus-storage project, floated an EoI for 4.5 GW power offtake at fixed tariffs, and sought developers for a 1 GW solar project in Rajasthan.

Through these projects, CIL is rapidly diversifying into green energy, aligning with India’s 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity target by 2030 and reducing its dependence on coal.
