Corporate Demand Drives Record 6.9 GW Solar Open Access Additions in 2024
May 26, 2025
India witnessed record growth in solar open access installations in 2024, adding 6.9 GW — a 77% increase over the previous year — Q4 & Annual 2024 India Solar Open Access Market Report. Open access projects made up 31.2% of all large-scale solar additions in the country, pushing the cumulative installed capacity under this model to 20.2 GW by the end of the year. The surge reflects a growing appetite among corporates and industries, especially in hard-to-abate sectors, for cost-effective and reliable green energy solutions.
AM Green Energy, a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal, led the market with a 1 GW wind-solar hybrid project in Andhra Pradesh. Serentica Renewables ranked second, having commissioned 640 MW across Karnataka and Rajasthan and announced a massive ?500 billion investment to expand capacity. Gentari (formerly Amplus Solar) followed, with projects in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh and ownership of India’s largest single-location open access solar plant in Gadag, Karnataka. Fourth Partner Energy and Brookfield Renewable Partners rounded out the top five, collectively accounting for 35.4% of the market share.
These developments signal growing industrial decarbonization efforts and increased investor confidence in India’s solar open access market. With energy-intensive businesses looking to reduce emissions and manage costs, open access solar continues to be a key driver of the country’s renewable energy transition.
