Delhi Offers Rs30,000 Extra Subsidy for Rooftop Solar, Total Support Now Rs1.08 Lakh for 3kW Systems
May 22, 2025
The Delhi Government has approved an additional State subsidy of Rs30,000 for 3 kW rooftop solar systems, boosting the total subsidy to Rs1,08,000 when combined with the Rs78,000 provided under the Central Government’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This move significantly reduces the upfront installation cost for residents and aims to drive wider solar adoption in the capital.
Delhi’s Chief Minister emphasized that households could save an average of Rs4,200 per month by installing rooftop solar systems. As of March 26, 2025, around 3,476 households in Delhi have adopted solar through the PM Surya Ghar program, contributing roughly 10 MW of capacity. The Delhi Solar Energy Policy, 2023, targets of cumulative 750 MW of installed solar capacity within State within three years, with an aim to raise solar’s share in electricity consumption from 9% to 25% by 2025 including long term PPA tieup of Solar in other States.
Earlier, Delhi offered a state capital subsidy of Rs2,000/kW, capped at Rs10,000 per consumer. The new subsidy considerably lowers the cost burden for households, helping address reluctance due to free electricity (up to 200 units/month) and high initial investment. Furthermore, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission recently waived fees for feasibility and registration for systems up to 10 kW under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
