DRDO and SECI Partner to Develop 300 MW of Solar Power Projects Across India
Oct 16, 2025
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to jointly develop 300 MW of solar-based renewable energy projects across the country.
Under the agreement, these projects will be established at DRDO facilities nationwide, supporting India’s broader clean energy mission. The collaboration also aims to make all DRDO campuses at strategic locations “net zero” by 2027, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to sustainability and energy independence.
Earlier in August 2025, SECI had invited bids for setting up 3,640 kW of grid-connected rooftop solar photovoltaic (RTSPV) projects under the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model through tariff-based competitive bidding (RTSPV–Tranche-IV).
In the same month, SECI also floated a separate tender for 3.54 MW of grid-connected rooftop solar installations at educational institutions in Assam, Sikkim, and Manipur, to be implemented under the RESCO model (RTSPV–Tranche-II).
This strategic partnership between DRDO and SECI marks a significant step toward advancing India’s renewable energy capacity and achieving the government’s target of carbon neutrality in key defence and research establishments.
