GE Vernova Launches PlanOS to Transform Grid Planning with Unified Software Platform

Sept 12, 2025

GE Vernova has introduced PlanOS, a comprehensive software suite designed to support energy planners, utilities, and regulators in managing the growing complexity of modern power systems. The platform aims to replace traditional, siloed planning tools with a unified, modular environment that enables faster, more accurate decision-making in the face of rising renewable integration, electrification, and decarbonisation challenges.

At its core, PlanOS integrates four advanced simulation engines—power flow, resource adequacy, production cost, and capacity expansion—built on a shared data architecture. This allows users to run interlinked studies within a single environment, streamlining workflows and reducing the time required to gain actionable insights. The system leverages high-performance computing to deliver results significantly faster than legacy tools, while its open APIs, scripting support, and modular design ensure adaptability across diverse markets and planning needs.

PlanOS provides capabilities such as dynamic transmission analysis, real-world dispatch simulations, emissions modeling, and future policy testing, equipping stakeholders to make least-regret investment decisions. According to GE Vernova, the platform has been purpose-built through global collaboration and decades of planning expertise, ensuring practical usability for system operators worldwide.

The launch of PlanOS marks a significant step toward holistic, future-ready grid planning, enhancing reliability, resilience, and affordability in the evolving energy landscape.
