Gentari and AWS Sign 80 MW Wind Power Deal to Push Net-Zero by 2040

Aug 06, 2025

Clean energy provider Gentari has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Amazon Web Services (AWS) for an 80 MW wind energy project in Tamil Nadu, India. This agreement builds on a broader collaboration initiated in 2023 between Gentari and AWS and marks a significant milestone in both companies’ commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Under the agreement, the wind project is expected to commence operations in mid-2027 and will generate approximately 300,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually. This output will directly support AWS’s renewable energy consumption and emissions reduction goals. The project reinforces AWS's global climate pledge while furthering Gentari's mission of bringing clean energy into action across key markets.

The signing ceremony was marked by a formal exchange of documents and was attended by key leaders from both companies. Gentari was represented by its Chief Renewables Officer, Low Kian Min, while AWS was represented by Jeff Johnson, Managing Director of ASEAN. The event was also witnessed by senior executives including Tengku Muhammad Taufik, Chairman of Gentari and CEO of PETRONAS, and Sushil Purohit, CEO of Gentari.

This partnership highlights growing corporate collaboration in accelerating renewable energy deployment in India’s clean energy transition.
