Germany Awards 2,638 MW in Ground-Mounted Solar Projects
Apr 25, 2025
Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has awarded contracts for 2,638 MW of ground-mounted solar projects under the first segment, which pertains to solar installations on structures that are not buildings or noise barriers. This is part of Germany’s broader effort to ramp up its renewable energy capacity. The March 1, 2025 tender closed with a high demand, receiving 420 bids totaling 3,839 MW, well above the 2,625 MW on offer. After disqualifying 35 bids, the agency awarded 271 contracts with a volume-weighted average price of €0.0466 (~$0.0534)/kWh, which is a slight 2% drop from the previous auction.
Bavaria received the largest share of the allocation with 607 MW from 85 bids, followed by Brandenburg (367 MW) and Lower Saxony (315 MW). This growing competition in solar auctions is expected to continue driving down costs. Klaus Müller, President of the Federal Network Agency, expressed that the decline in awarded prices reflects continued high participation, and the move to ground-mounted solar installations is seen as a positive development for Germany’s energy transition.
The next tender for ground-mounted solar will be held on July 1, 2025, with an ambitious plan to auction 9,900 MW of solar capacity throughout the year.
