Govt to Install 360 kW Fast Chargers on Highways to Boost EV Ecosystem

The Central Government is set to install high-capacity 360 kW electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along India’s highways, expressways, and key transit points like bus stops to support the growing EV ecosystem. This strategic move aims to facilitate faster charging for electric buses, trucks, and premium EVs, cutting recharge time to just 15 minutes.

While India’s EV adoption is rising steadily, the country’s charging infrastructure has often lagged behind demand, especially for long-haul and commercial vehicles. By deploying heavy-duty charging stations, the government intends to address this gap and enhance the competitiveness and operational efficiency of electric commercial transport.

The initiative also aligns with India’s broader EV infrastructure plan to expand charging availability beyond urban centers, thereby improving access in rural and semi-urban regions. This rollout is expected to significantly bolster sustainable transportation, making long-distance EV travel more feasible and boosting confidence among consumers and fleet operators alike.
