Hitachi Partners with JBM to Accelerate Smart Battery Management for Electric Buses in India
May 05, 2025
Hitachi ZeroCarbon has partnered with JBM Electric Vehicles, a global electric bus OEM, to integrate its advanced ZeroCarbonBatteryManager solution into India's electric public transport ecosystem. This collaboration marks a strategic step toward enhancing the performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of EV fleets in diverse and challenging climates across India and the Middle East.
The partnership will pilot battery monitoring across JBM’s electric bus fleet using real-time data to optimize charging patterns, route planning, and battery asset usage. The initiative aims to demonstrate that electric buses can rival diesel buses in total cost of ownership (TCO), ultimately boosting operational value for public transport operators. Nishant Arya of JBM Auto emphasized the project’s role in improving battery performance and extending residual value across multiple applications and climates.
Hitachi views India as a critical market, with CEO Ram Ramachander highlighting the unique operational challenges and growth potential for EVs in the region. The collaboration will serve as a blueprint for a scalable, cost-efficient electric transport model, building on Hitachi’s prior success with the UK’s First Group.
This initiative not only supports India’s decarbonization goals but also positions Hitachi to further scale its battery and fleet optimization solutions across South Asia and beyond.
