HLL Lifecare Commissions 1 MW Rooftop Solar in Kerala
Sept 19, 2025
HLL Lifecare, a government-owned healthcare products manufacturer, has commissioned a 1 MW rooftop solar project at its Thiruvananthapuram premises, reinforcing its sustainability vision while driving down energy costs. The project was executed by WattSun Energy, using Rayzon 540 Wp mono PERC modules and Sungrow 125 kW string inverters.
The system is expected to generate substantial savings—nearly Rs100 million annually —with a payback period of just five years. Prior to the installation, HLL’s average daily consumption stood at about 29,062 units, and the solar project will now offset a significant portion of this demand.
The installation posed structural challenges, given the multiple roof types on one of the city’s oldest buildings. To overcome this, WattSun designed elevated mounting structures that ensured uniformity and stability across different roof conditions while optimizing generation.
According to Terance Alex, Founder and CEO of WattSun Energy, the project demonstrates that going solar is not just about sustainability but also about achieving lower costs, higher efficiency, and long-term competitiveness.
HLL’s move highlights a broader trend in the commercial and industrial (C&I) segment, where entities, institutions, and even residential complexes are increasingly adopting rooftop solar as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to grid power.
This development also ties into India’s push for wider C&I solar adoption, supported by initiatives like the C&I Clean Energy Meet series, which provides knowledge-sharing platforms for businesses. The next event in the series will be held in Jaipur on September 19, 2025.
