Honeywell and NTPC Green Partner to Explore SAF Production in India Using CO2 and Green Hydrogen

Jun 03, 2025

Honeywell has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTPC Green to jointly explore the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in India using carbon dioxide captured from NTPC’s power plants and green hydrogen. The collaboration will assess the application of Honeywell’s proprietary eFining™ technology, aiming to advance SAF manufacturing as part of NTPC Green’s Green Hydrogen Hub in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh.

The partnership aligns with India’s energy security goals and supports global and domestic decarbonization efforts in the aviation sector, which is under increasing pressure to cut carbon emissions. SAF, a key enabler of net-zero aviation, is gaining traction amid policy pushes for mandatory jet fuel blending.

According to DMR Panda, Executive Director (Green Hydrogen) at NTPC, SAF is expected to be a major component of the Pudimadaka hub, driven by growing demand for early-mover hydrogen projects. Honeywell’s Vice President Ranjit Kulkarni emphasized that this initiative will use their SAF production expertise to reduce emissions from thermal energy, integrate green hydrogen, and create pathways for India to become a global SAF hub.

The feasibility study is expected to be completed by mid-2025 and could set the foundation for large-scale SAF production and export from India, contributing to both national and international carbon reduction goals.
