Honeywell Launches AI-Powered Protonium™ to Boost Green Hydrogen Production

Honeywell has introduced Honeywell Protonium™, a cutting-edge suite of AI- and machine learning-enabled technologies designed to make green hydrogen production more efficient, cost-effective, and scalable. This new innovation addresses major challenges in the hydrogen sector like power supply fluctuations, high costs, and carbon emissions.
The first deployment of Protonium™ will be with Aternium, a U.S.-based clean hydrogen company, at their Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub (MACH2). This hub is one of seven in the U.S. selected by the Department of Energy for hydrogen development support.
Protonium™ enhances electrolysis efficiency and helps optimize hydrogen plant design and operation using predictive control algorithms. These tools help make hydrogen production more stable, reliable, and environmentally friendly, even with variable renewable energy sources like wind and solar.
Aternium’s CEO, Andrew Cottone, said the decision to use Protonium™ was strategic to ensure top safety and efficiency standards. Honeywell’s Pramesh Maheshwari highlighted that Protonium™ will help accelerate the commercial viability of green hydrogen, supporting energy transition goals.
This move reflects Honeywell's growing role in clean energy innovation, offering tech-driven solutions to help hydrogen producers scale operations and support a low-carbon future.
