IEX Records Highest-Ever 121 BU Electricity Trade in FY 2025

The Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) has recorded its highest-ever electricity trading volume of 12,100 crore units (BU) in FY 2025, registering a 19% year-over-year (YoY) growth. The exchange also set a quarterly record in Q4 FY 2025, trading 3,174.7 crore units (MU), up 18% YoY.
Green Market Expansion
IEX’s Green Market saw exponential growth, trading 1,925 MU in Q4—doubling YoY. For the full year, it achieved 8,746 MU, reflecting a 170% YoY increase. The Green Day-Ahead Market (DAM) recorded a weighted average price of Rs4.01/unit.
Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Market
The REC market witnessed a 136% surge, with 1.77 crore RECs traded in FY 2025, the highest ever. Q4 alone saw 0.68 crore RECs traded, a 108% rise YoY. In March 2025, 0.13 crore RECs were cleared at prices of Rs348 and Rs347 each, marking an 18% YoY increase.
Electricity Market Performance
- Day-Ahead Market (DAM): Traded 16,931 MU in Q4, up 14% YoY; 61,311 MU for FY 2025, up 15% YoY.
- Real-Time Market: Recorded 9,650 MU in Q4, a 29% YoY increase; 38,896 MU traded in FY 2025, also up 29%.
- Term-Ahead Market: Declined 8% YoY in Q4 with 3,241 MU traded; 11,760 MU for the full year, down 21% YoY.
December 2024 stood out with 11,132 MU, the highest-ever monthly volume, up 29% YoY, while February 2025 saw 552 MU of green energy traded, marking an 85% surge from the previous year.
These milestones reflect IEX’s critical role in deepening market participation and advancing India’s clean energy integration.
