IMFA Signs 25-Year PPA with AMPIN Energy for 40 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid Power

Jun 03, 2025

Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys (IMFA), a leading ferrochrome producer, has entered a 25-year power purchase agreement with AMPIN Energy Utility One, a special purpose vehicle of AMPIN Energy, to procure 40 MW from its 116 MW wind-solar hybrid project. The project includes 58 MW each of wind and solar capacity and will help IMFA reduce its carbon footprint and stabilize long-term energy costs.

This move aligns with IMFA’s broader sustainability and expansion strategy. The company, which operates captive chromite mines and power generation units, has a history of integrating renewable energy, including a 4.5 MW solar project in Therubali, Odisha, and rooftop solar installations at its mines. IMFA has also deployed solar fencing to mitigate human-animal conflict and invested in solar street lighting around its mining areas.

For future expansion at Kalinganagar, IMFA plans to procure an additional 50 MW of renewable power. The company previously announced a joint venture with JSW Green Energy in December 2024 to source 70 MW for smelting operations through a hybrid project combining 50 MW solar and 100 MW wind capacity.

AMPIN Energy continues to strengthen its commercial and industrial (C&I) renewable energy portfolio. In April 2025, AMPIN signed a deal to supply 75 MW solar power to UltraTech Cement, investing Rs25.5 crore for a 26% stake in its SPV, AMPIN C&I Power Eight. These partnerships reinforce AMPIN's role in India’s growing clean energy transition, while enabling industrial players like IMFA to enhance sustainability and cost efficiency.
