India Achieves Record 25 GW Renewable Energy Addition in FY 2024-25

Apr 02, 2025

India witnessed a historic milestone in FY 2024-25, adding 25 GW of renewable energy capacity, marking a 35% increase from the previous year. The solar sector led the charge, contributing nearly 21 GW, pushing the nation's total solar capacity beyond 100 GW.

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana provided financial assistance of Rs5,437 crore, benefiting 11+ lakh households. Under the PM-KUSUM Scheme, 4.4 lakh solar pumps were installed, and over 10 lakh existing pumps were solarized, further strengthening decentralized solar adoption.

India’s domestic solar manufacturing also saw impressive growth. Module capacity nearly doubled to 74 GW, while solar cell capacity tripled to 25 GW, reinforcing India's push for self-reliance. Additionally, the Green Hydrogen sector attracted investments worth Rs4,659 crore, showcasing strong momentum in clean fuel development.

The renewable energy sector’s financial strength was evident as IREDA (Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency) recorded 27% growth in loan sanctions, signaling increased investor confidence. These achievements highlight India’s rapid progress toward clean energy leadership, setting a strong foundation for future growth.
