India Launches Hydrogen-Powered Transport Pilot Projects Under National Green Hydrogen Mission

The Government of India has initiated five pilot projects under the National Green Hydrogen Mission to deploy 37 hydrogen-fuelled buses and trucks across 10 routes, along with nine hydrogen refuelling stations. These projects, backed by INR 208 crore in financial support, mark a significant step in scaling up green hydrogen adoption in the transport sector.

Objective & Impact:

These pilot projects aim to validate the feasibility, performance, and economic viability of hydrogen-based transport under real-world conditions. They will help establish a roadmap for the commercial deployment of hydrogen-powered buses and trucks in India, supporting the country's clean energy transition and decarbonization goals.

Launched in January 2023 with an outlay of INR 19,744 crore, the National Green Hydrogen Mission is a key initiative to reduce fossil fuel dependence, boost green hydrogen adoption, and position India as a global leader in hydrogen technology.
