India’s EV Adoption Accelerates with Wider Reach and Stronger Charging Network

India’s electric vehicle (EV) sector is growing at record speed, as highlighted in the India Charging Report 2025 by TATA.ev. The report shows that 65% of Indian pin codes now have at least one EV, while 84% of owners rely on them as their main vehicle—up from 74% in 2023. EV owners are driving an average of 1,600 km per month, 40% more than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, with half completing trips over 500 km, supported by a robust charging network.

Public charging infrastructure has grown fourfold since 2023, reaching 24,000 stations nationwide. Fast-charging is particularly strong, with 91% of National Highways having a charger within 50 km. Thirteen states and UTs, including Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, and Delhi, now have full fast-charging coverage. Usage of fast chargers has risen, with 35% of TATA.ev drivers using them monthly compared to 21% in 2023.

Despite this progress, challenges persist. Nearly half of public chargers were unreliable in early 2024, and users face a fragmented experience, managing up to 20 apps for discovery and payments. To address this, TATA.ev has launched a verified high-reliability network, integrated services into its iRA.ev app, and deployed 120 kW Mega Chargers.
