India's Solar Module Manufacturing Capacity Surges Past 65 GW
Jan 06, 2025
India's solar module manufacturing capacity has significantly increased, surpassing 65 GW, according to the latest update from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). This surge follows the addition of two new manufacturers, Insolar Ltd. and Visaka Industries Ltd., to the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).
Key Highlights:
- New Entrants: Insolar Ltd. (Uttar Pradesh) with 1,525 MW and Visaka Industries Ltd. (Telangana) with 16 MW have joined the ALMM, bringing the total number of approved manufacturers to 97.
- Capacity Expansions: Several existing manufacturers have applied for capacity expansions, including Vikram Solar, SAEL Solar, Emmvee Photovoltaic Power, HR Solar Solutions, ADM Solar Power, and Redren Energy.
- Provisional Enlistments: Leading players like Waaree Energies and Mundra Solar PV have received provisional enlistment, subject to fulfilling government guidelines.
This significant increase in manufacturing capacity is a crucial step towards India's ambitious renewable energy targets. It will enhance domestic production, reduce reliance on imports, and create new job opportunities in the solar sector. The updated ALMM order for solar PV cells will further incentivize domestic cell manufacturing and ensure the quality of solar modules used in India.
