The Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) achieved a significant milestone in December 2024, recording its highest-ever monthly electricity traded volume of 11,132 Million Units (MU). This impressive achievement represents a 29% increase compared to December 2023.
IEX witnessed a significant rise in electricity trading, marking a 19% increase for the first nine months of the fiscal year 2025 (April-December 2024) compared to the same period in the previous year. The exchange also facilitated a substantial increase in renewable energy certificate (REC) trading. In December 2024, IEX traded 16.62 lakh RECs, reflecting a 58% year-on-year growth.
Data from December 2024 indicates a rise in the country's overall energy consumption. The Market Clearing Price in the DAM for December 2024 was Rs 3.89/unit, a 14?crease compared to December 2023. This price drop presented an opportunity for consumers to procure electricity at a more economical rate.
