Indraprastha Gas to Establish Rs2,066 Crore Solar Plant in Rajasthan

,p> Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has announced its plans to set up a 500 MW solar power plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan, as part of its strategy to expand into clean energy and achieve net-zero targets. The company will invest Rs2,066 crore in the project, which will be developed in collaboration with Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL), a state-owned power utility.
The project will be executed through a joint venture, with IGL holding a 74% stake and RVUNL owning the remaining 26%. RVUNL will provide land for the solar park in Bikaner and assist with power transmission infrastructure. The development is expected to be completed within 18 months from the formalization of the joint venture.
Funding for the project will come from a mix of debt and equity, and the proposal is currently under review by the Rajasthan state cabinet. This initiative is part of IGL’s broader vision to establish a 1 GW renewable energy portfolio over the next two to four years, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
IGL, a leading player in the city gas distribution sector, supplies approximately 10 MMSCMD (Million Metric Standard Cubic Meters per Day) of gas across its markets. The company continues to invest in infrastructure and marketing while integrating renewable energy into its growth strategy for a greener future.
