IWTA–GWEC Roundtable Charts Roadmap to 100 GW Wind Power for India

Aug 29, 2025

At the Hotel Taj, New Delhi, the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), in collaboration with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), hosted the roundtable conference “Roadmap to 100 GW: Wind at the Core – Driving India’s Green Ambitions and International Influence.”

Releasing the report, Shri Santosh Sarangi, Secretary, MNRE, emphasized the critical role of wind power in India’s energy transition. He underlined how wind and solar complement each other to provide round-the-clock renewable power. He also stressed the need for faster transmission development, self-reliant domestic manufacturing, and global partnerships to ensure India not only achieves but also surpasses the 100 GW wind capacity milestone.

In a video address, Hon’ble Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi reaffirmed India’s global leadership in wind energy under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat mission. GWEC leaders, including CEO Ben Backwell and Shri Girish Tantri, highlighted India’s projected wind demand of 122 GW by 2030, underscoring the country’s central role in the global clean energy landscape.

The conference concluded with consensus that wind energy will remain the backbone of India’s green ambitions, strengthening both its domestic energy resilience and international influence.
