JSL Super Steel Signs Solar Power Deal with Sunsure to Cut Emissions

Apr 11, 2025

JSL Super Steel, a subsidiary of Jindal Stainless, has partnered with Sunsure Energy by signing a power purchase agreement to source 11 MW of solar energy for its manufacturing unit in Uttar Pradesh. The clean power will come from Sunsure’s 49 MWp solar project in Augasi, which will help JSL reduce its conventional energy use by nearly 40%.

This move will supply the company with 16.5 million units of renewable energy annually and offset about 12 million kilograms of carbon emissions—an environmental impact equivalent to planting more than 545,000 trees every year.

Jagmohan Sood, Wholetime Director and COO of Jindal Stainless, highlighted that the partnership aligns with the company’s broader sustainability goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2035. He emphasized that integrating renewable energy into their operations not only reduces their carbon footprint but also helps establish higher sustainability standards for India’s metal industry.

JSL Super Steel focuses on producing stainless steel long products like wire rods and rebars, with a rolling capacity of 160,000 tonnes annually. These materials are vital to several sectors, such as construction, automotive, and general manufacturing, making this clean energy shift a key step toward greener industrial practices.
