JSW Energy Fully Commissions 240 MW Kutehr Hydroelectric Project in Himachal Pradesh
Aug 13, 2025
JSW Energy Ltd. has fully commissioned the 240 MW Kutehr Hydroelectric Power Plant in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, with the launch of its final 80 MW unit. The project operates under a 35-year Power Purchase Agreement with Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC) at a levelized ceiling tariff of Rs4.50/kWh, supplying power to Haryana’s distribution utilities — Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam.
This milestone, combined with recent wind capacity additions, has boosted JSW Energy’s installed capacity to 13,020 MW, up 2,145 MW since March 2025. The renewable share now stands at 57%, with 1,631 MW hydro, 2,157 MW solar, and 3,574 MW wind.
Joint MD and CEO Sharad Mahendra praised the team’s execution speed, completing the project in under six years despite challenges from COVID-19, lockdowns, and extreme weather. The commissioning coincides with the high-generation season, aided by strong water inflows.
JSW Energy’s portfolio includes 30.3 GW locked-in capacity — 13 GW operational, 12.7 GW under construction, and 4.6 GW in the pipeline. The company also has 29.4 GWh locked-in energy storage capacity, targeting 30 GW generation and 40 GWh storage by FY 2030, and aims for Carbon Neutrality by 2050.
