KMC Speciality Hospitals Invests in Solar Power to Achieve 100% Clean Energy
Sept 10, 2025
In a step toward clean energy adoption, KMC Speciality Hospitals has acquired a 26% equity stake in Gardenia Energy, a renewable energy company, to qualify as a captive consumer of solar power. The investment, valued at Rs26,000 (2,600 shares at Rs10 each), is a restrictive one, giving KMC no control over Gardenia Energy.
Through this move, KMC will secure solar power for its Maa Kauvery Hospital unit in Tamil Nadu. The hospital chain, with operations in Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru, is steadily reducing its reliance on conventional power and expanding its renewable energy portfolio.
In FY 2024-25, renewable energy contributed 78% of KMC’s total energy mix. The hospital consumed 7.10 million megajoules of renewable energy, leading to cost savings of over Rs8.05 million. The company aims to reach 100% renewable energy usage by the end of FY 2025-26.
This move aligns with a broader trend of Indian healthcare institutions switching to clean energy. For example, Narayana Health saved over Rs40 million in 2021 by powering most of its operations with renewables.
Industry platforms C&I Clean Energy Meets are also encouraging businesses to adopt renewables, with the next event scheduled in Jaipur on September 29, 2025.
