KPI Green Energy Obtains Category A Power Trading Licence from GERC

Oct 10, 2025

KPI Green Energy has received approval from the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) for a Category A Power Trading Licence, a move that allows the company to directly participate in electricity trading and optimise power distribution across KP Group’s 6 GW renewable energy portfolio.

With this licence, KPI Green Energy gains the ability to trade power through energy exchanges and short-term bilateral markets, helping industrial and utility consumers procure electricity in sync with their operational needs. The company aims to enhance revenue realisation by matching generation with real-time market demand.

The licence also enables KPI Green Energy to provide traceable green energy blocks, assisting clients in achieving renewable energy compliance and meeting their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals. Through transparent, exchange-based pricing and standardised contracts, the company expects to offer predictable and competitive tariffs for customers.

Additionally, this regulatory nod will help KPI Green Energy expedite open access connections for consumers, ensuring quick and efficient solutions for short-term and transitional energy requirements.

Speaking on the development, Dr. Faruk Patel, Chairman and Managing Director of KP Group, stated,

“This licence represents a strategic milestone for KPI. It allows us to engage directly in dynamic electricity markets, optimise power sales, expand customer options, and further accelerate India’s transition to clean energy.”

By synchronising electricity sales with real-time and day-ahead market opportunities, KPI Green Energy expects to strengthen its market presence while maximising financial performance from its renewable energy generation assets.
