LONGi Files Patent Lawsuit Against Jinko Solar Over TOPCon Technology

Mar 03, 2025

Chinese solar giant LONGi has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Jinko Solar in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, alleging that Jinko’s TOPCon solar modules infringe its U.S. patents. The lawsuit seeks to block Jinko’s sales of the disputed products in the U.S. and demands financial compensation for damages.

About TOPCon Technology

TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) technology is an advanced solar cell architecture that enhances efficiency over traditional Mono PERC technology, leading to a surge in patent disputes. This lawsuit follows a prior legal action by Jinko against LONGi, making it a countermeasure in an ongoing patent battle between the two solar giants.

LONGi's Intellectual Property

With 3,166 authorized patents as of June 2024, LONGi has established strong intellectual property protections across multiple photovoltaic technologies. The growing competition in TOPCon solar module manufacturing has triggered similar legal battles globally, including a lawsuit by Trina Solar against Canadian Solar in the U.S. last year.

Market Implications

As the solar industry transitions to high-efficiency cell technologies, patent disputes are becoming a critical challenge, influencing market dynamics and the global adoption of next-generation solar solutions.
