LRE Begins Construction on 152 MW Twelvemile Solar Projects in Oklahoma

Aug 05, 2025

Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE), a US-based clean energy company, has started construction on its Twelvemile Solar 1 and 2 projects in southern Oklahoma. These solar facilities will have a combined capacity of 152 MW and are part of LRE’s broader 724 MW solar portfolio in the state, which also includes the Mayes County Solar Portfolio. The Twelvemile projects aim to provide reliable and affordable power, with electricity generation expected to begin by early 2026.

These will become the largest solar facilities of their kind in Oklahoma, helping reduce pressure on the power grid during high-demand summer months. LRE acquired the projects from Red River Renewable Energy LLC—a partnership between SunChase Power and Eolian—and worked closely with them during early development.

Leaders from LRE, Eolian, and SunChase Power emphasized the role of these projects in boosting energy reliability, supporting economic development, and creating local jobs. At peak construction, up to 350 workers will be employed. Over their operational life, the projects are expected to contribute around $29 million in local and state property tax revenue, further supporting community and infrastructure growth. The projects also highlight the importance of multi-technology power systems in coping with extreme weather and supply challenges.
