Luxcara Reserves Siemens Gamesa Turbines for 1.5 GW Offshore Wind Project in Germany
Sept 01, 2025
Luxcara, a Hamburg-based clean energy asset manager, has signed a capacity reservation agreement with Siemens Gamesa for its 1,500 MW Waterekke offshore wind project in the German North Sea, scheduled for completion by 2029. The deal covers 97 turbines, each with a capacity of 15.5 MW, following an international tender process.
In addition to Waterekke, Luxcara is also exploring synergies with its neighbouring 300 MW Waterkant project to enhance cost efficiency and operational integration. The company is considering using Siemens Gamesa turbines for Waterkant as well and has reserved 19 additional turbines of the same type. This would allow bundled procurement, joint installation campaigns, and coordinated operations across both projects, ensuring a smoother energy transition.
Luxcara’s Managing Director, Holger Matthiesen, highlighted that the company’s focus is on delivering financially sound and low-risk projects in collaboration with trusted partners. The reservation of turbines marks a key milestone following the award of the Waterekke project in 2024.
Approval documents for Waterekke have already been submitted to the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH), and authorities have been informed about the possible turbine change for Waterkant.
These projects represent a major step in advancing Germany’s offshore wind capacity and clean energy transition.
